Oral Pathology

Oral pathology is the study and diagnosis of diseases of the mouth. At Superior Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Pasternak combines her training and experience in dentistry and oral surgery to evaluate the oral cavity and detect any significant changes in your oral health.

Patients may visit the office with a varied list of complaints or underlying diseases. By looking at the lining of the mouth, Dr. Pasternak can identify alterations in appearance and warning signs for a pathological process. The most serious of these is oral cancer.

The following symptoms are signs that may indicate the beginning of a pathological process or cancerous growth:

  • Red or white patches in the mouth

  • A sore that bleeds and is unable to heal

  • Thickening of the skin or a lump inside the mouth

  • Constant sore throat, hoarseness, and/or difficulty chewing or swallowing

Our team will listen to every patient's complaints and gather a detailed dental and medical history. We will combine our detailed examination with imagining and work with your referring dentist to develop a treatment plan if we identify any issues.

Please do not ignore any suspicious lumps, sores, or abnormalities. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your health, you can contact our team in Rochester Hills at (248) 829-3635.
